This Sunday 19th Jan, we are very excited to have the amazing Chef Nimrod Kazoom teaching us how to cook for 100 people! Nimrod is a master of Middle-Eastern/North African fusion cuisine. From ruling the food the market stalls around Fremantle, through to establishing Trip Advisors Top Rated restaurant in it’s class – he knows what we need to know to cook for 100 hungry Rebels at a time.
If you can make it to South Beach, Fremantle this Sunday 19th Jan 11:45am – 1:30pm (and stay afterwards!) PLEASE CONFIRM BY ADDING YOUR NAME HERE – https://actionnetwork.org/forms/yes-im-coming-to-cook-with-nimrod/
You can get there by public transport, there is plenty of parking and we’ll ensure an accessible location for people with disabilities.
Make no mistake – this is important stuff. From simply being able to provide food at Rebel Welcomes or other meet-ups, supplying food on the frontlines of mass actions or developing bulk cook-ups to supply food to busy Rebels or people in need – this is a vital group to be developing. And so much fun and deliciousness!
As the group develops – you might decide to work on gathering equipment, finding kitchen spaces, making alliances with other groups such as Food Not Bombs, using food for fundraising, outreach or support for people who are doing it tough, and show the community what Extinction Rebellion is all about, beyond the disruptive tactics, looking after people.
This workshop will commence at 12pm sharp at South Beach, Fremantle. Look for the XRWA flagged Gazebo near the ablution block/playground area. Please aim to arrive at 11:45am to ensure you can park, get your bearings, find us and meet Nimrod.
We will be cooking delicious paella for 100 people! The meal will be vegan and gluten free.
Ingredients will be supplied this week. Can you bring along:
Your favourite kitchen knife
Clean Tea Towel
Notebook and pencil
12pm – 1:30pm: cooking with Nimrod.
1:30pm: Serve it up – we’ll cook for 100 people – lets invite that many to join us!
From 1:30pm onwards – this will be the launch of “XR Connect” at South Beach, Fremantle. It’s an exciting new weekly social, connective, regenerative and educational series for anyone and everyone to attend – no planning, no meetings – just come and hang out – a great place for new Rebels to make connections, and for the old hands to share stories and relax. This week, as well as your feast, there’ll be live classical guitar by Jane Darcy, t-shirt screenprinting, banner and poster painting, a wheatpasting workshop, Heart Circle, and a talk with long time Aboriginal activists Corina and Hayden Howard about their experiences and learnings. Or, just grab a feed, go for a swim and hang out – it’s up to you. See the Facebook event here.
If you can’t make this week’s workshop – don’t worry there’ll be more! Do you have cooking skills or experience to offer? If you use Facebook, join the Rebel Chefs group to connect up and share! If you could run a workshop in future, or have equipment to offer, know of kitchen spaces we can use – please let us know.
